Slovenia has a perfect mix of attractions for visitors, as well as being in the unique situation with regards to its size – a person could travel from enjoying the warm coast to one of the many ski slopes in just a few hours, such is the ease of navigation through the tiny nation. The capital Ljubljana is situated in the heart of the country and is likened by some to Prague – just without the hordes of tourists. Those wishing for cultural pursuits can head to the National Museum or the National Gallery, as well as the beautiful old town region and Ljubljana Cathedral, with its towers dominating the cityscape. As well as the plethora of other sights there are some wonderful operas and theatre shows, along with numerous bars, cafes, casinos, restaurants and clubs, meaning everyone should have something they can enjoy. Travellers to the Julian Alps along the Austrian border will be welcomed by popular skiing resorts, Triglav National Park and some wonderful mountain towns. Near the Austrian and Italian borders is the incredibly popular mountain resort of Bled, resting on Lake Bled this region is the most popular tourist attraction in the country. Nearby is the also-popular lake resort of Bohinj, and though this area is not as well visited as Bled, it is held by many as the more beautiful of the two. In the West of the country there are numerous seaside resorts, with Portoroz – the Port of Roses – attracting the most visitors each year. There are many alternative resorts to visit, each with their individual styles, from the tightly-packed Piran to the Italian-feeling port of Koper there should be enough for all tastes. Throughout the country are a number of health spas, and Slovenia proves very popular with those simply seeking relaxation from the hectic nature of home. It is a seriously beautiful country and has not yet been tainted with heavy tourism, meaning it is ripe for the experience right now.
